SOLIDWORKS is always known for its unique CAD functionality. Another version of useful function is the ADD-Ins utilities. However the function that that we are going to talk here is only available for SOLIDWORKS Premium and SOLIDWORKS Professional. You will not be able to find this function in SOLIDWORSK Standard.
This tool is known as the Compare Tool. It allows you to modify, compare and analyze your 3D model with one another. It is very useful when you have two versions of similar models and you may identify the differences using this Compare Tool. In this example, I am going to use compare geometry. Compare Geometry is used to analyze two versions of a file and quickly identify any geometric similarities and differences. This Compare Geometry can be done in two ways which is volume comparison and face comparison.
How do we compare a similar part in SOLIDWORKS?
Many industries such as manufacturing and designing choose SOLIDWORKS as their CAD software to design their products. Some engineers will design similar model but with different unit, features and etc. This tool is very useful when comparing two difference SOLIDWORKS documents, BOMs, Features, drawing and Geometry. In other words, this is particularly useful when you have a part that looks very similar to each other or you received an updated part but you are not sure what the difference are.
Go to Options > Add-Ins > Checked SOLIDWORKS Utilities
Tools > Compare> Geometry
At reference document > Select the similar model which you wish to compare
Ensure the geometry is checked then click on the Run Comparison. The windows will preview these two models
You may modify these two models by selecting on the volume comparison and the face comparison.
SOLIDWORKS always ensure their users satisfaction. With this utility, it helps to increase their daily productivity. This make task even easier for users as they can directly compare their model instead of doing it by gathering the information or modifying the model one by one.
