Creating assembly in SolidWorks had always been a common task for a designer. Over the years, SolidWorks introduce powerful tools in assembly creation and editing. SolidWorks 2016 continues to introduce new enhancements to streamline assembly creation processes. Please take a look at some of the highlights below for assembly improvement.
SolidWorks 2016 focus on giving the user a better user experience in Mating. While selecting the first mates of your mating components, automatic transparent is assign to the first component. This will allow the users to easily select entity that could be otherwise visually obstructed during assembling. SolidWorks 2016 also introduce Component Preview Window in the context toolbar to ease mate insertion. This new feature enable a separate window in your SolidWorks interface while maintaining the assembly in the picture for mating purposes.
The Quick Mate Toolbar introduce in the previous version had effectively reduce the time for mating without needing access to the Property Manager. In SolidWorks 2016, there are more common used mates added to the Quick Mate Toolbars include the Profile Center Mate, Lock rotation, Symmetry mate and Width Mates. Mating multiples components in SolidWorks can definitely be faster than ever.
Replacing of lost mate reference functionality has now been extended to SolidWorks 2016 that allows replacing of lost mate reference at component level. Identical components in SolidWorks 2016 which have the same lost mate can be solve instantly without needing you to replace the mate reference one by one traditionally. Additionally, SolidWorks 2016 added a new selection option to select the Identical Components to further streamline your error repairing process.
Copying of multiple components together with mates in the assembly level can be very time consuming. SolidWorks 2016 now enable users to copy and paste multiple components together with mates and the best part is, Copy and paste can be done with the Window Short-cut command of Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V.
Selecting the right configuration of a component for assembling can now be done via the Property Manager before the insertion into the assembly. This greatly reduce the need for additional clicks to navigate the right configuration of the component to be used.
Lastly in SolidWorks 2016 assembly, toolbox functionality had also been enhanced. A Favourite Folder is added to the Toolbox to store your common use toolbox components. The toolbox components can be added to the favourite folder effortlessly with just drag and drop. Another enhancement in SolidWorks 2016 Toolbox, users can now edit multiple toolbox components at the same time and changing the fastener types instead of just the size of the fastener.
